Violence against women has damaging effects for everyone. It hurts families, crushes spirits and can eventually take lives. It exists in all of our communities and affects all social classes, all races and all walks of life…no one is immune. Domestic violence has been felt first hand by Kansas NOW’s membership and leadership. Jana Mackey was a friend, NOW member and lobbyist for our organization. Jana’s ex-boyfriend took her life on July 3, 2008. Jana lead a life of activism, courage and fortitude during her 25 years. She was greatly loved and is missed by all of us at Kansas NOW. We continue to fight for the causes she believed in and will never forget her service and grace. Her mother, Christie Brungardt wrote about Jana in this article for the National NOW Times.
